4th Annual GLax vs. Goucher Field Hockey Basketball Game

GLax took on the Goucher Field Hockey team in a friendly basketball game on Friday.  The annual basketball game has now become a favorite tradition for both teams.

Alums, you'll be happy to know that the tradition continues, and GLax dominated yet again this year!!

Calling All Alums!!!

Hello to all our G-Lax Alums!!

Don't worry, we haven't forgotten about our Alumnae Game!  Instead of having our Alumnae Game in the fall, our Alumni Office has asked us to move the game to the spring during Alumni/Alumnae Weekend in April.  We are looking forward to welcoming you back to campus then.

But before we can send out the save-the-date notification, we need your contact info!  Can you take one second to fill out our Alumnae Contact info?

The link is  https://www.frontrush.com/FR_Web_App/Player/PlayerSubmit.aspx?sid=2577&ptype=alumni, and it only takes a minute.  And if you could pass this link on to your fellow-classmates, we would really appreciate it.

Thanks Alums!  Go Gophers!

The Lady Gophers are in the second week of their Winter Fitness Program.

Today's Workout:  Fartlek for 30 minutes
Jog for 30 minutes outside.  Take your stopwatch.  After 3 minutes warm-up, start sprinting for 30 seconds, then jogging for 30 seconds.  Make sure there is a noticeable difference between your sprint and your jog.

G-Lax names captains for 2011 season

G-Lax just announced that seniors Colleen Cole, Sara Miller, and Melissa “Zimm” Zimmerman will be team captains for the 2010-2011 season.  We are delighted that these 3 will be team leaders, as all three lead by example and excel both on and off the field here at Goucher.
Colleen is an All-Region selection and an IWLCA Scholar-Athlete.  Colleen ranked first in the Landmark Conference in three categories:  goals per game with 56 goals for the season; points per game (goals and assists per game) with 77 points; and Draw Controls per game, as she averaged picked 3.88 draw controls per game.
Sara was a Second-Team All-Conference selection and an anchor on our defense.  Not only did she lead our team with 42 ground balls, but she was first on the team and fifth in the conference with 28 caused-turnovers.  Sara also contributed on the draw circle, ranking third on the team for Draw Controls.
Zimm suffered a season-ending ACL tear towards the second half of the last season.  After having knee surgery, she has impressed everyone here at Goucher with how hard she has been working on her rehab.  Her dedication to her rehab program exemplifies her excellent work-ethic.
We are pleased with our 2010-2011 captains, and we know they will do an excellent job of leading us to success.

G-Lax finishes fall ball

The Goucher Women's Lacrosse Team just finished a successful Fall Ball Season.  NCAA regulations limit us to just 16 practice dates during the Fall, so we practiced three times a week for a total of 5 weeks.  The team also competed in the Diane-Geppi Aikens 5K Race to show support for a former Loyola women's lacrosse coach, who did so much for our sport and for female athletes in general before losing her battle to brain cancer.

The seniors also ran captain practices for the girls, when the team worked on fitness together, then played fun games of dodge ball, kick ball, and basketball.  One thing we learned from our last day of practice, it's a good thing we're not collegiate volleyball players!

This Fall Ball, we focused on individual skills.  We perfected our dodges, worked on individual defensive skills and emphasized the importance of dictating our attackers' movements.  Another point of emphasis was fitness.  As we are a small team this year, we want to make sure we are more fit than any of our competitors so we can outrun anyone on the field.  We taught the girls ways to work on specific split times, so we can all improve our mile and .5 mile times for our fitness testing in February.

Now the challenge for our G-Lax players is to take these individual skills that we emphasized during Fall Ball and to continue perfecting them in the off-season, so we can be ready to move to more challanging team concepts once our pre-season begins in February.  We are already looking forward to our 2011 official season!
